London get togethers

Directions to Regent's Park

Here's a map to help you on your way:

[ Regent's Park Map ]

Once you've arrived in London, the directions are:
From Euston: It's a ten to fifteen minute walk. Exit the station, follow signs to Euston Square tube station. Carry on along the north side of Euston Road, crossing the Hampstead Road at the pelican crossing, or by the underpass (if you're brave and/or have no sense of smell). Cross both parts of Albany Street (a one-way system is in use - traffic enters at the second road, after the church). Park Square West is on your right, at the second set of lights.

From Victoria (train and coach): Take the Victoria line to Warren Street station. Exit the station, and turn left, leaving the McDonalds behind you. Cross the Euston Road at lights. Take care. Turn left. The road you're walking away from is the Hampstead Road, so follow instructions from Euston.

From Marylebone, Paddington, Waterloo, Charing Cross: Take the Bakerloo line to Regent's Park station. This is actually harder than it might appear, as the streets round the station are in a symmetrical design. Come out of the station, walk with the Euston Road on your right, with the flow of the traffic. Cross the Euston Road, you're in Park Square West.
It's possible to walk from Marylebone to the meeting point in about 15 minutes. Contact me for further details.
Regent's Park station is served by lifts, not escalators. There are about 90 steps up to street level (17.2 metres due up) on a spiral staircase. Major lift-phobes who don't relish these steps may wish to change at Oxford Circus to the Northern Line and Warren Street; or continue to Baker Street, and reverse on the Met / H&C / Circle to GPSt.

From other main-line stations: Take the Circle (or Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan, where available) to Great Portland Street station. We suggest arrivals at Fenchurch Street should make for Aldgate rather than Tower Hill, as there would be Met departures. On arriving at GPS, exit the station at the front of building, not left or right. Cross Euston Rd at the pelican - care again. Turn left, crossing Albany Street. Park Square West is on your right, at the second set of lights.

By bus: The following routes serve Regent's Park tube station, the stop you'd alight at.
18: from Sudbury, Wembley, Stonebridge, Harlesden, Harrow Road.
27: from Turnham Green, Chiswick, Hammersmith, Kensington High St, Notting Hill Gate; you'll need to cross the Euston Road if coming from Camden Town and Chalk Farm.
30: from Hackney Wick, Dalston, Highbury, Islington turns down Great Portland Street.
Guests coming from Turnham Green and Chiswick may wish to take the District tube line, changing at Hammersmith for a H&C line train. Guests from other parts of West London should note there's no convenient Central line interchange.)

From Park Square West: You'll see a gate into the park roughly ahead of you. Enter the gate, and look for other listies. If you're the first there, I suggest sitting on the grass (or the one bench) just to your left, where there are trees and grass and other fun things. Even a kiddies playground, albeit staffed by a killjoy guard who won't let you in.

If you're asking other people, or following signs within the park, we're at the south-east corner of Marylebone Green. If you're in a formal garden with long lines of paths and trees, you're a little too far west - cross over the hedge and you should see the playground to orient yourself.

Next meeting: September 25 or 26.
