July 1998: Notes and explanation

This page makes no sense without looking at my original postings.
Later in the summer, we got re-runs of the entire run of Fawlty Towers. Such is the high quality of modern television that they all made the BBC1 Top 20 Most Watched Shows.
"South Park"s run features a disclaimer pointing out that all people depicted herein, even the famous ones, are fictitious; all the voices are done, really poorly; and due to the show's extreme levels of violence and bad language, it should be watched by no-one. This screen, and a warning by the Continuity Announcer, isn't enough to stop the bleep machine coming out. "Bastards" is perfectly acceptable, as is "Cartoons Kick Ass!", but "****", "***********" and "**** me ******" isn't.
Order to order: that's Damon Albarn, lead singer with Blur. Patricia Arquette, actress. Chandler Bing of "Friends". Tim Burgess, responsible for the Charlatans vocals. Sinead Cusack, another actress. Johnny Depp acts, as does Matthew Perry. Mrs Rudd is the music teacher from the Radio 4 series "King Street Junior" and John Williams is a classical guitarist.
As opposed to "If I had a million dollars -- I'd be rich". From "Gordon".
Lisa's sister, Emma Forrest, writes a weekly column for the Grauniad. It's a rather good read, too, even if most of the ideas she uses are exactly the same ones that cropped up in Lisa's posts last week. Curious, that...
In which she predicted France would thump Brazil in the World Cup final. 3-0 was the final score, sparking over a week of celebrations (helped by Bastille Day falling in the middle, in fairness).
And I never said it was Lionel Richie's "Ballerina girl"...
I can? Great. Well, we have womyn singing about "do what I don't", "come down from your tree", "huff, puff and blow you away". Sounds a lot like the subject matter to Lou Reed's "Walk on the wild side" to me...
