DECEMBER CHRISTMAS CRAFT IDEAS

Reindeer
Reindeer
What you will need is:
a metal/wire hanger.
Several pairs on panty hose. You need a leg a child.
construction paper or felt
something for eyes (they use googly eyes)
something for a nose the used a red small pom pom

Bend the hanger so it is in the shape of a diamond. Leave the hook part on it. they had them hanging from it. Pull the leg of panty hose over the hanger and tie it closed around the hook. Cut out antlers and glue on same with the
eyes and nose. They look really cute. It took a little bit to figure out just how they had made them. I think probably even the preschool age kids will have fun with it once you get the hanger set for them.

Reindeer Magnet
You will need small dog biscuits, small wiggly eyes, small red pom poms (for the nose), brown chenille cut in 2 inches length strips (for antlers) and magnet strip. You take a dog biscuit and work on it vertically. You want to hot glue a red pompom near the bottom (above where the dog biscuit indents), then hot glue the wiggly eyes above that. Twist the chenille sticks (pipe cleaners) into antlers and hot glue those at the top of the dog biscuit, gluing them to the back so they stand out at the top and then attach magnetic backing to the biscuit. Easy, holiday magnets.

Christmas Reindeer
Supplies:
Large Craft Stick - or popsicle stick
Pipe Cleaner
Glue or Hot Glue Gun
Markers
Wiggle Eyes
Small Red Pom Pom
Thin Red Ribbon or a magnetic Strip Make a reindeer by shaping the pipe cleaner into a V shave and glueing it to the top, back of the stick; glue on wiggle eyes and nose, and draw a mouth. You can make this a gift tag by writing To: and From: on it; you can use the ribbon and make it an ornament; or you can make it a magnet.

Triangle Reindeer
Supplies:
Popsicle Sticks
wiggle eyes
Glue
Red Pom Pom
Put 3 popsicle sticks together to make a triangle. With the point facing down, the top stick should be placed lower to make antlers, glue together. Glue red pom pom on the point for a nose, and glue the eyes on the sticks about half
way up from the point.

Stockings
Christmas Stockings
Supplies: Construction Paper, Glue, Cotton Balls, Old Toy Catalogs, magazines
Trace a picture of a stocking on construction paper and cut. Use cotton balls to trim the stocking on the top. Use catalogs and cut out pictures of what you want for Christmas, & glue to the stocking.

Simple Stocking
Use a simple Christmas stocking outline on white paper. You can give the kids an assortment of whatever you have on hand to decorate it. After decorating, have them cut out the stocking (you can have them cut out two and glue them together). They then have their own stocking for Santa.

Christmas Trees
Christmas Trees
Supplies: Construction Paper, Glue, Colored Cellophane, Crayons
Cut out trees made of construction paper. Punch out holes in the tree. Have children glue colored pieces of colored cellophane or construction paper to the back to cover the holes. This makes it look like lights on the tree. Turn
over and decorate the tree with whatever they wish (crayons, construction paper bits, etc).

Christmas Trees
Supplies:
Green Construction Paper
Glue
Ped Paint
Misc. Collage Materials
Cut out Christmas tree shapes. Decorate the Christmas tree: you can dip a finger in in red paint and make fingerprint ornaments, you can use various collage materials, such as glitter, buttons, fabric scraps, to decorate as desired. You can also make wreaths.

Egg Carton Tree
Supplies:
Two Egg Cartons
Large Piece of Paper
Glue
Paint
Misc Craft Items - such as fabric scraps, beads, ect.
Cup the egg cartons so you have one row of 6 cups, one row of 5 cups, and so on to 1 cup. Paint the outside of the egg cup green. When the paint is dry, glue them on a large sheet of paper as follows: Glue the 6 cup row on the
bottom of the paper, just above that glue the 5 cup row, and so on until you have used all the cups. It should look like a triangle when you are done. Decorate with misc. craft items.

Pine Cone Christmas Tree
Supplies:
Pine Cones
Green Paint
Glue
Misc Craft Items - such as Yarn, beads, ect.
Cover the work area with newspaper and paint the pine cone green. When the paint is dry, glue on yarn, beads, ect for the decorations.

Ornaments
Christmas Snowflake Ornament
Using craft sticks spray paint them white or the children could paint them white. I like to use the cut out craft sticks for this project. Now glue 3 of the sticks together to form a snowflake design. Start by making a "X" shape
with a dot of glue in the center of the sticks. Now lay the next stick horizontal on top like this> ---- . Now let the sticks dry. The children now apply glue & white glitter. Glue a paperclip to the top of the stick to use as a hanger. Add a green or red ribbon to the paperclip.

Swirled Ornament Balls
Use clear plastic balls (ornament balls) with a gold top & loop, to pull string through. Use different colors of acrylic paint & have the kids squeeze different colors into the ornament ball. When each color is squeezed in the
ball, the children turn the ball around & around to spread out the color.

Glitter Ornaments
Trace a simple star or whatever design on paper (tape the paper to the table). Lay wax paper over the top so you can see the design (also tape it to the table). Have the kids put glue over the outline of the design and then sprinkle on the glitter. Dry overnight and then peel from wax paper. Add a ribbon to hand on a Christmas Tree.

Pipe Cleaner Ornaments
This is quite easy, you need pipe cleaners and tri-colored beads. Take the pipe cleaner and thread on the beads so they nest together. Can make a wreath, candy cane, star, etc. For older kids you can have them weave ribbon with
holes in it through the pipe cleaner and between each bead.

Styrofoam Ball Ornament
Supplies:
Styrofoam Ball - about 2 and a half inches
Glue
Paper Clips
Paint
Misc Craft Items - glitter, jewels, ribbons, ect.
Put some glue on one end of a paper clip and push it into the ball, this will be the hanger. Paint and decorate as desired.

Drum Ornament
Supplies:
Toilet Paper Rolls
Red and White Contact Paper, Felt, or Paint
Glue
Gold Metallic Yarn
Toothpicks
Cut the roll in thirds. Cover with red paper, felt, Contac, or even paint or markers, just so it is covered. Glue 2 circles of white felt, paper or fabric just big enough to go over each end and glue around the edge about 1/8". Using gold metallic yarn (like the plastic canvas stuff), anchor one end to the top edge of the covered roll, then glue to the other edge going down and at an angle, then angle back up to the top and continue around in the fashion. Glue a couple of round toothpicks to the top, add a string for hanging.

Pinecone Ornaments
Gathered pinecones (they don't have to be large). Spray paint some gold, some silver, and some with clear sealer and while still wet we sprinkled glitter on liberally, then sprayed again with clear sealer. This should be done in a well ventilated space, needless to say, but they love to press the spray button. You could do a similar craft having them paint the pinecones by hand with gold or silver paint, or dabbing glue on the cones and sprinkling with glitter. When the cones are dry, tie a beatiful ribbon around the top (ones that still have a bit of stem attached at the top work best), and you have a very nice ornament for the tree. This is a fast craft and the result is very nice looking.

CANDY CANE TREE ORNAMENT
Using Tri-beads thread the beads onto a pipe-cleaner.I use two red beads then two white beads.Thread the beads so they nest together. When you like the length bend the pipe-cleaner to hold & cut.Bend the length to make a candy
cane shape that will hang on the tree.I can't remember how many beads it takes to make this.It might be 22 beads. You can also make a wreath using the same idea & a circle shape.

Wreath's

Pretzel Wreath
Use the little pretzels (the ones that are shaped like a heart with a cross in the middle). Glue 1 layer of them in a circle like a wreath, then glue a second layer on top of the first joining the pretzels together over the middle of a pretzel on the first layer. You can weave ribbon between the holes if you would like. Hang with a ribbon.

Wreath
Supplies:
Paper Plate or Cereal Box, ect --Glue --Crayons --Misc Craft Items -- such as fabric scraps, beads, ect.
If you are using cardboard, cut it into a circle about the size of a paper plate. Cut the center out of the paper plate or cardboard to make a wreath shape. Use various craft supplies to decorate.

Pasta Christmas Wreaths
Supplies:
Small Paper Plates
A Variety of Different Shaped Pasta
Craft Glue
Silver or Gold Spray Paint
oTinsel Bow
Cut center out of the paper plate. Glue pasta noodles around the outer ring Try to completely cover the paper plate. Let glue dry and then spray paint the desired color. Embelish with a bow of tinsel.

Hand Print Wreath
Supplies:
Thick, White Fabric - cloth napkins work well
Red and Green Paint
Wooden Dowel
Ribbon or Yarn
Lay fabric flat on some newspapers. Using one hand to dip in paint, form a circle on the material to look like a wreath. Let the green dry. Dip one finger in the red paint and make holly berries on the wreath. Fold over the
top of the material to form an opening to slid the dowel through. Tie the ribbon or yard onto the ends of the dowel to hang it from.

Baggie Christmas Wreath
1 wire coat hanger
box of "baggie" brand sandwich bags
hot glue gun
misc. mini size decorations/bows
Bend the coat hanger to look like a circle with a hook on the top of it. Tie the baggies around the coat hanger. Tie as if you were tying your shoes, but without the bow part - or kinda like half a knot. Squish the baggies together and cover the entire hanger except the hook. It should look like a wreath - all fluffy. Glue on decorations or bows.

Christmas Cards
Rudolph Christmas Card Holder
Take a gallon milk jug and cut off the top section right below the handle. Cover with brown paper (paper grocery bags). Trace the child's hand and place on the back of the container. On the front draw eyes & Mouth and attach big
red pom-pom for nose. Place Xmas cards inside.

Christmas Card Holder
Supplies:
Gallon Milk Jug
Brown Paper - can use paper grocery bags
Glue
Crayons
Large Red Pom Pom - optional
Take the gallon milk jug and cut off the top section, just below the handle. Cover with brown paper. Trace the childs hand on another piece of brown paper, cut them out, and glue on as antlers. Draw eyes and mouth, and attach the big red pom pom for the nose.

(RECYCLE) CHRISTMAS Lace-up CARDS
Cut the cards apart. Take the front of the card & punch holes all around it. Let the children sew or lace around the card. Curling ribbon can be used without a needle.

SANTA
Santa's Key
Thought this would make a cute sign for the front door on Christmas Eve....Glue either real keys or have the children make..(color,cut out etc.)
Their own "magic Key".
The Santa Key's are for people who don't have fireplaces/chimneys---the key let's Santa in. Get an old fashioned skeleton key, spray paint it gold, tie a ribbon around it, then put in on a wreath (or whatever you have on your
front door) so that Santa can come in the house and bring gifts.

Dear Santa,

We don't have a chimney
for you to come in through
And if you miss our house
I don't know what I'll do.

Mom says you work magic
and can use just any old key
If we just hang it outside
in a place you're sure to see

So I'm placing this old key
right beside our door
say my prayers and jump in bed
and I won't worry anymore

Santa Hat
Supplies:
Red Construction Paper
Glue
Cotton Balls
Cut out a large triangle out of red construction paper. Glue on the cotton balls to make a white ball on one of the triangle tips, and glue cotton balls along the bottom edge to form the brim. You can also cut out two triangles and tape or staple them together to make a hat to fit the child's head.

Santa's Cookie Mats
I took tag board and traced cup and saucer on it with red and green markers and allowed the kids to draw milk and cookies on the cup and saucer and decorate them as they wished. I wrote their name and year in bottom corner
with marker. Then I attached this poem:

Dear Santa:

Here's some milk and cookies
That I have left for you
There are enough for Rudolph
I hope he likes them too.

I hope you know I love you
I would tell you if I could
Please leave a little something
Because I've been really good.

Then I will use lamination or contact paper to cover.

Christmas Bells
WELCOMING BELLS
Greet your visitors with the sound of bells by slipping this two-tone felt star over the knob on your front door. Older kids can handle the cutting and gluing; young ones will prefer the less fastidious job of gluing on buttons and sequins.
MATERIALS
Thin cardboard
Pencil and scissors
Two felt squares
Small jingle bells
1 yard ribbon
White glue
Buttons, sequins and glitter
Help your child draw a five-point star (about eight inches across) on the cardboard and cut it out. Lay the star on a felt square, trace around it with a pencil, then cut it out. Using a drinking glass as a guide, trace, then cut a circle, large enough to fit over your doorknob, in the center of both stars. Once you are certain of the fit, glue the felt and cardboard stars together. From a different color of felt, cut out a star about a half inch smaller. This time, make the hole in the star's center about half the size of the one in the first star.
Carefully cut small slits around the hole so that it will pass over the doorknob, then glue the smaller felt star to the larger one. Tie jingle bells to three 12-inch strands of ribbon and glue or sew the ends of the ribbons to the bottom of the star, as shown. Now, the decorating: glue buttons, sequins, or glitter onto the star. To hide the glued ends of the ribbons, cover them with a button or other decoration.

Misc Christmas Crafts

Glitter Snow globes
Get some baby food jars. Glue a small plastic snowman or other figure to the inside of the jar with waterproof adhesive. Let it dry. Fill the jar with vegetable oil. Add glitter. Use plastic shavings as "snow." Fasten the lid. Melt some wax to seal the lid or use hot glue. Vary the globes by changing the figures & colors of glitter.

Snowman
1. Put a jar lid in the toe of a sock.
2. Crumple newspaper into three balls. Put the largest one in the sock on top of the lid. Tie string around the sock above the ball. Add the other balls, tying string above each one.
3. Cut off the rest of the sock above the last piece of string.
4. To make a hat brim, trace around a water glass onto paper. Cut out the circle.
5. Set an empty film canister in the center of the circle and trace around it. Cut out the small circle to form a ring.
6. Slide the paper ring over the canister and tape it in place. Glue the hat over the cut end of the sock.
7. Glue on button eyes and buttons on the body.
8. For a scarf, tie a fabric strip around the neck. Place twig arms under it.
