Wilfred Layton


Wilfred Layton was born February 18, 1785 in Kentucky, and died August 31, 1840 in Perry Co., Missouri. He married Susanna Denike September 17, 1804 in Washington Co., Kentucky, daughter of Samuel Denike and Ann Witfield. She was born March 10, 1778, and died October 19, 1845 in Perry Co., Missouri.

Notes for Wilfred Layton:
At the formation of the city of Perryville, Wilfred Layton with William McLane purchased lot 42. He (Wilfred) was appointed 11-10-1823 overseer of Road District #1. The records of the administration of his estate #204, listed funeral expenses of $2.12 1/2. The widow took a falling leaf table, looking glass, and a Yankee clock. Liquor for the sale of property in the amount of 5 gallons (at 75 cents a gallon) was furnished by Moore and Whitworth.

Notes for Susanna Denike:
Wilfred Layton and Susan Denick were listed in Father Nerinckx's register in KY in 1806. Samuel Denike and Ann Witfield, believed to be the parents of Susannah Denike were married 4-19-1778 in St. Mary's Co, MD. The surname Denike is believed to be a corruption of TEN EYCK.

2. Elisah 'Louisa' Layton, born 1808 in Washington Co., Kentucky; died Aft. 1870 in St. Genevieve Co., Missouri. She married John Montgomery April 22, 1828 in Perryville, Perry Co., Missouri; born 1790 in Kentucky; died October 22, 1856 in Ste. Genevieve, Ste. Genevieve Co., Missouri.

3. Joseph Wilfred Layton, born 1810. He married Melanie Ann Moore November 25, 1834 in Perry Co., Missouri.

4. Anselm Layton, born 1811 in Washington Co., Kentucky; died Bef. 1850 in Perry Co., Missouri.

5. Susannah Layton, born 1815; died August 12, 1847. She married Edward Lloyd Adams January 12, 1836 in Perry Co., Missouri.

6. John C. Layton, born April 22, 1820; died January 23, 1863. He married (1) Mary Ann Moore January 21, 1840 in Perry Co., Missouri. He married (2) Emily Philomena Riney July 01, 1860 in Perry Co., Missouri.

7. Rosalia Layton, born August 24, 1822 in Washington Co., Kentucky.

8. Lucretia Layton, born March 20, 1825 in Missouri; died March 24, 1849 in Perry Co., Missouri. She married Matthew Brewer May 15, 1843 in Perry Co., Missouri; born September 21, 1820 in Perry Co., Missouri; died March 16, 1879 in Perry Co., Missouri.

Ignatius Layton being duly sworn by me, Clerk of the County Court, deposeth and sayeth, that to the best of his knowledge and belief; the names of the heirs of Wilford Layton deceased, are first The Heirs of Mary Watkins deceased, next Joseph Layton, Anslem Layton deceased, Louisa Montgomery wife of John Montgomery, Susann wife of Loyd Adams, both the latter residing in Ste Genevieve County Missouri, John C. Layton, Roselia Layton and Lucretia, wife of Matthew Brewer, all the latter residing in Perry County Missouri.
That said Wilfred Layton died without a will, as far as he knows and believes, that he will make a perfect inventory of, and faithfully administer all the estate of said Wilfred Layton, deceased, and pay thedebts as far as his assets will extend

We the undersigned, widow, and heirs at law of Wilford Layton, deceased, do hereby renounce, all and each of our rights, interests and claims of and too the administrator on the estate of said Wilford Layton deceased, and desiring at the same time that letters of administration may br granted to Joseph W. Layton the brother of said deceased.
