In the name of God Amen. I John TINSLEY of Amherst County and State of Virginia
being sound in mind and memory Calling to mind the uncertainty of human life
and being desirous to dispose of such worldly estate as it has pleased God to
bless me with I do give and bequeath the same in the following manner to Wit.
In the first place I wish my just debts to be paid. I wish my Negro Man Edmund
to be sold as soon as may be convenient after my decease and the money to be
equally divided among the five children of my deceased daughter Frances
Harrison namely Polly, Sally, John, Charles, and Nancy HARRIS and their
respective parts of the said money to be paid to them by my executor,
hereinafter mentioned, as soon as they respectively arrive to lawful age.
To my Granddaughter Sally HARRISON I give and bequeath one Negro Girl Betsy
aged at this time about five years with her future increase to be enjoyed by
her the said Sally HARRISON and the heirs of her body former but in case she
Should die with out any such heir She Said Nergo girl and her future increase
to be divided as a part of my personal estate hereinafter mentioned. I wish my
tract of land whereon I now live to be sold, and the money to be payable in
three payments the time of which payments to be at the discretion of my
executor, and the money for which it is sold to be equally divided amongst my
Son Edward TINSLEY, my Daughter Elizabeth WEST, my Son Anthony G. TINSLEY, my
Daughter Sally SLEDD, my Son Robert TINSLEY, my Daughter Lucy FOWLER and my Son
Oliver TINSLEY to be paid to them or their heirs severally be my executor
hereintafter mentioned my son James TINSLEY, my deceased daughter Francis
HARRISON and my Son Lindsey TINSLEY having received their proportionable
benefit of the land I give to the said James TINSLEY the heirs of said Frances
HARRISON ;and to my son Lindsey TINSLEY no part of the money arising from the
sale thereof after taking out the out the[sic] Negro man Edmund bequeathed
above to the heirs of my daughter Frances HARRISON and the girl Betsy and her
increase given as as [sic] Mentioned above to Sally HARRISON, I give and
bequeath the ballance of my Slaves and all my other property of every discreption the negro Girl named Lucy which I have lent to my son Oliver
TINSLEY included to my son James TINSLEY my son Edward TINSLEY, my Daughter
Elizabeth WEST, the five children of my daughter Francis, Polly, Sally, John,
Charles, and Nancy HARRISON, the said five children to be entitled to one shar
and that to be equally amongst them, my Son Anthony G. TINSLEY my daughter
Sally SLEDD, my Son Robert TINSLEY, my son Lindsey TINSLEY, my daughter Lucy
FOWLER, and my Son Oliver TINSLEY to be equally divided amongst them and to be
enjoyed by them and their lawful heirs forever provided that the part of said
five Children of Frances HARRISON Polly, Sally, John, Charles and Nancy
HARRISON Shall be during their minority under the sole Management of my
executor and their respective parts shall be by him paid to them as soon as
they shall respectively become of lawful age And lastly I do constitute and
appoint my son Robert TINSLEY the Executor of this my executor and their
respective parts shall be by him paid to them as soon as they shall
respectively become of lawful age And lastly I do constitute and appoint my so
Robert TINSLEY the Executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking
all other former wills heretofore by me made In Testimony whereof I have
hereunto set my hand and caused my seal to affixed, this fifth day of May in
the year one thousand eight hundred and sixteen

Will and Testament of John TINSLEY, deceased Was this day produced into Court
and [pronened] by the Oaths of R. TINSLEY, Edward TINSLEY and David TINSLEY
three subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded and Robert
TINSLEY the Executor named in said Will personally appeared in Court qualified
and entered into and acknowledged a bond in the sum of $20000 with Reuben
PENDLETON, David TINSLEY, George TINSLEY his securities conditioned as the law
directs certificate is granted him for obtaining probate thereof in due form

The receipts and disbursements of the John TINSLEY estate were recorded 18 Aug
1823.
Payments by the estate totalled $4035.215
The estate's value totalled $10,971.87, which included: 11 slaves, 5028 pounds
of tobacco, 85 bushels of wheat, and 356 acres of land. Each heir received a slave.
