My name is Gary Bullock . I was born in Illinois in 1953. I have been endeavoring to research my ancestry for some time. My father is Clarence Bullock , born 1926; son of Henry Franklin Bullock and Goldie Brown . He has (had) three brothers, Thomas, Richard, and George and one sister Mildred.
Grandpa Henry had brothers Harold, Kelly, and Roscoe; and sisters Mildred, Carrie, Blanche, and Bulah. His father was James Franklin Bullock , his mother Sara Ford (who's father was Solomom Ford and arrived by covered wagon from Tennesssee, according to family history)
The following excerpt came from the wife of Arthur Edmison , a second or third cousin of Henry, my grandpa. Her father was Rosco Bullock (family name, but not Henry's brother), her grandfather was Benjamin Franklin Bullock , and her great grandfather was George E. Bullock . I am not clear as to whether James Franklin and Benjamin Franklin were brothers or whether George E. and James Franklin's dad were brothers.
"Noah Bullock was born in Mt. Vernon Il on Dec 25, 1830, the son of George Bullock of Washington DC. George had lived in Louisville, where he had a business as a tanner. He moved to Mt. Vernon, where he carried on the same business. He fought in the Blackhawk Wars and died in 1880. He married Marinda Casey , native of Tennessee, who died in 1894. They had children Noah, Thomas, and William. Thomas fought in the civil war. Noah fought with the Fourty-fourth Illinois Infantry, Company I. He was wounded at Franklin TN and again in Nashville - where he lost an eye. He returned to Mt. Vernon and married Marinda Hix in 1849 (Note::There seems to be a discrepancy in the dates - the civil war was not this early!perhaps she meant 1869?) They had four children - unnamed. After her death, he married Elizabeth Garrison . On March 10, 1892, he married Louisa Samons , and they had one son, Stacy."
Pretty good story - some it doesn't seem to fit, however. Would
appreciate any help - and feel free to utilize any or all of this as
you see fit Jeverna Bullock Mulligan has contributed a file from her Bullock family which includes families from LaSalle Co. Illinois. The file is at Descendants of Daniel & Mercy (Sayer) Bullock
