Our story

JOHN

John's father, Jack Tomkies was born 28th October 1908 in Hamilton Rd, Hataitai, Wellington the second eldest child. Jack's father, Ernest Austin was an electric lines Inspector with the Railways. Jack moved with his family to 35 Braithwaite St Karori and it was there that he met Audrey. Audrey was born in a nursing home off Rintoul St Newtown on 3rd September 1910. Audrey moved with her family to Karori in 1921. Jack married Audrey Lena Burness Skinner, second daughter of James MacAdam Skinner and Grace Brunton Burness, on 18th December 1937.

John born 12th December 1940 married on 10th October 1964 Margaret Lynne Schdroski third daughter of William Roy Schdroski and Elizabeth Fisher Scoon.

MARGARET

Margaret's father, Roy Schdroski was born 15th August 1907 in Hawkes Bay, the second eldest child. Roy's father, Francis Lawrence was a Farm worker/contractor. Roy joined the Post Office as a cadet and moved to Wellington where he met and married on 27th February 1935 Elizabeth Fisher Scoon.

Bessie and Roy.

Bessie as she was known was born on 3rd January 1912, in Langholm, Scotland, the daughter of Fergus Scoon and Alice Collin Cormack. Fergus died aged 35 so Alice and Bessie came to New Zealand in 1926. Margaret born 19th April 1944 married on 10th October 1964 John Austin Tomkies second son of Jack Tomkies and Audrey Lena Burness Skinner.

HOME

John who worked for AMP, was transferred to Rotorua in April 1964. After Margaret and John married they lived in Rotorua for three years. John was transferred back to Wellington in 1967 and they moved into Tawa and lived in their home for 39 years before moving in 2006 to their current home.
