Peterson* - b. 1854 Notes: The family of James and Rachel Peterson may well be one of the most well documented Peterson families in Georgia. The number of children varies from record to record, but the names remain fairly constant. They show up as man and wife in a number of census records in Montgomery/Telfair and Echols as well. The Huxford Genealogy Library in Homerville, GA has them on record as well. * K. Peterson has been listed here as a child of James and Rachel on thin evidence. The late Honorable Judge Folks Huxford published a number of books on southern Georgia families, compiling his information from census and court records and gleaning data from interviews with family members and fellow researchers who came to him for help in their searches. This research is the source of many of the Latterday Saints and other genealogy page info on the Petersons. One of these interviews with a Katie Sapp yielded a handwritten notation by Judge Huxford listing a K. Peterson as a son of James and Rachel Peterson. These notes are available to researchers although they were not expected to be considered gospel. Furthermore this notation was never committed to any of the publications perhaps meaning it was never established or confirmed as a valid link. The circumstantial evidence makes it possible but there is no documentation of this relationship to be found. |
