New Brunswick Historical Tidbits Woodstock Businesses 1830- 1840

The business firm of Perley and English was established in 1830, soon after a custom house was built and H. E. Dibble was the collector. There was a hotel owned and operated by Stephen Tracy. The general store was run by R.S. DeMill and the blacksmith shop by R. A. Hay. There was a tannery operated by Stephen Parson and also a carriage maker shop ran by Deacon Gray.
In 1836 the Woodstock Stage Coach Company was incorporated and it ran until 1841 when J. R. Tupper bought it. The company continued until 1866. In 1842 the Registrar's office was opened and G. A. Bedell was the registrar of deeds and wills. There was also another large hotel and tavern kept by an American named Pratt.
