Trees grow up
to become ancestors.
We long for winter nights,
the hunter's albatross.
We greet the spring green
by writing stillborn letters.
Quietly we dart
like light on branches
looking for our line.
We kneel again and search
right up to our ancestor's roots
where we sometimes find
what we thought a white path
all broken up in warm sunlight.
