Prayers
by Yellow Hawk - Sioux Chief Oh Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the winds, and whose breath gives life to all the world - hear me - I come before you, one of your children. I am small and weak. I need your strength and wisdom. Let me walk in beauty and make my eyes behold the red and purple sunset. Make my hands respect the things you have made, my ears sharp to your voice. Make me wise, so that I may know the things you have taught my people, the lesson you have hidden in every leaf and rock. I seek strength not to be superior to my brothers, but to be able to fight my greatest enemy, Myself. Make me ever ready come to you, with clean hands and straight eyes, so when life fades as a fading sunset, my spirit may come to you without shame.
And now, Grandfather, I ask you to bless the White Man. He needs your wisdom, your guidance. You see, for so long, he has tried to destroy my people, and only feels comfortable when given power. Bless them, show them the peace we understand, teach them humility. For I feel they will someday destroy themselves and their children, as they have done to Mother Earth. I plead, I cry. After all, They are my Brothers...

Great Spirit, Great Spirit, My Grandfather, All over the earth the faces of living things are all alike...Look upon these faces of children without number and, with children in their arms, That they may face the winds and Walk the good road to the day of quiet... There is no Death...Only a change of worlds..Only a change of worlds. (Huichol Medicine Man) by H. Kent Craig My Grandfather is the fire. My Grandmother is the wind. The Earth is my mother. The Great Spirit is my father
The World stopped at my birth and laid itself at my feet. And I shall swallow the Earth whole when I die, and the Earth and I will be one Hail the Great Spirit, my father, without him no one could exist, because there would be no will to live. Hail the Earth, my mother, without which no food could be grown, and so cause the will to live, to starve. Hail the Wind, my grandmother, for she brings loving, life giving rain, nourishing us as she nourishes our crops. Hail the Fire, my grandfather, for the light, the warmth, the comfort he brings, without which we be animals, not men. Hail my parents and grandparents, without which, not I, nor you, nor anyone else, could have existed. Life gives life, which gives unto itself, a promise of new life. Hail the Great Spirit, the Earth, the Wind, the Fire, Praise my parents loudly, for they are your parents too. Oh, Great Spirit, giver of my life, please accept this humble offering of prayer, this offering of praise, this honest reverence of my love for you. "The Earth is sick and dying. The lands of the Huichol Indians, hidden high in the remote Sierra Madre mountains of northwestern Mexico, are dying. The forests are shrinking, water is becoming scarce,
and the animals are disappearing.
Mankind must be a steward of the Earth; Caretakers for all that dwells upon it; To be of one heart with all things. Human beings must learn to share the tears of every living thing, To feel in his heart the pain of the wounded animal, each crushed blade of grass; Mother Earth is our flesh; the rocks, our bones; The rivers are the blood of our veins." First you are to always think of God.
The words of God are not like the oak leaf
Don't walk behind me; I may not lead.
It is no longer good enough to try peace,
There can never be peace between nations,
The soul would have no rainbow

THE LORD'S PRAYER IN CHEROKEE
Legend of the Cherokee RoseWhen the Trail of Tears started in 1838, the mothers of the Cherokee were grieving and crying so much, they were unable to help their children survive the journey. The elders prayed for a sign that would lift the mother's spirits to give them strength. The next day, a beautiful rose began to grow where each of the mother's tears fell. The rose is white for their tears, a gold center represents the gold
taken from Cherokee lands, and seven leaves on each stem for the seven Cherokee clans. The wild Cherokee Rose grows along the route of the Trail of Tears into eastern Oklahoma today.
The Way Of The Circle

The "Way of The Circle" is passed from generation to generation, from Native elders to the children in the form of stories, traditions, customs and teachings.

1) When you arise each morning, give thanks to Creator, to the four directions, to Mother Earth, Father Sky and all your relations.
2) Remember that all things are connected.
3)All things
have a purpose.
4)Honor others by treating them with kindness; always assume a guest is tired, cold or hungry. Provide them with the best of what you have to offer.
5) If you have more than you need for yourself and family consider a "giveaway" by giving to others.
6) You are bound by your WORD. You can not break it unless by permission of those you promise something to.
7) Seek harmony and balance in all things.
8) Share
9) Practice silence and patience in all things
10) Practice modesty in all things;
boasting and loud behavior is not acceptable
11) Always ask permission and give thanks for all received
12) Be aware of what is around you, inside you and ALWAYS show RESPECT
13) Do not stare at others; drop your eyes as a sign of respect, especially in the presence of elders, teachers or honored persons.
14) Always greet a friend in passing
15) Never criticise or talk about anyone
in a harmful way
16) Never TOUCH something that belongs to another without permission
17) Respect the PRIVACY of every person

19) Listen with your heart
20) Learn from your experiences
21) Always remember a smile is sacred
