Theo K. Brye, is a prosperous merchant of Rothsay, Minnesota, and is one of the leading citizens of Wilkin county. He has large financial interests in that locality and is a gentleman of excellent business judgement and has gained a high station as a citizen.

Mr. Brye was born in Coon Valley, Vernon county, Wisconsin, September 28, 1861. His father was born in Hallingdal, Norway, and came to America in 1847. He settled in Wisconsn and was one of the pioneer farmers of that state.

Our subject attended school in a log cabin when a boy and at an early age became used to farm work. He entered the Lutheran College at Decorah, Iowa, in 1877, and studied five years in the classical course in that institution, receiving a liberal education. He taught school in Wisconsin and later came to Minnesota and followed the same profession in different parts of Minnesota for six years. In 1888 he began clerking in Rothsay for A. B. Pedersen, general merchant, and was in his employ three years and received a practical knowledge of the business. In 1891 Mr. Brye purchased the business of Mr. Pedersen and he has since conducted the establishment as proprietor. He has enlarged the stock and remodled the building, and now carries a complete line of general merchandise, and has a large trade extending through Wilkin county and into Otter Tail county. He is interested largely in farm lands. He is a stockholder in the Rothsay Elevator Company and is one of the directors of the company.

Mr. Brye was married in 1891 to Miss Anna Evensen. Mrs. Brye was born near the childhood home of our subject in Wisconsin, March 10, 1866. Her father was born in Ringsak, Norway and was farmer by occupation. Mr. and Mrs. Brye are the parents of two children, both daughters: Agnes, born April 19, 1892; and Esther, born April 11, 1895. Mr. Brye takes a commendable interest in local public affairs and has served four years on the village council, and was president of the board for two years. He is also school director and takes an earnest interest in educational affairs. In politcal sentiment he is a Republican.
