| Hovland rites held Saturday Pelican Rapids Press August 3 1978 Funeral services for Adolph Hovland were held Saturday at the Larson Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Matthew John conducting the service. Interment was at Our Savior's Cemetery, Rothsay. Hovland, 95, died July 25 at the Pelican Valley Nursing Home. Everett Johnson was soloist at the funeral service and pallbearers were Art Anderson, Bert Christianson, Cliff Runningen, Elmer Rud, James Svendsgaard, and Marvin Tweeton. Adolph Hovland was born May 4, 1883, at Rothsay, the son of Nels and Marie (Brorby) Hovland. He grew up at Rothsay and at the age of 20 homesteaded near Columbus, North Dakota. He married Astrid Tannas at Fergus Falls in 1908 and they farmed at Columbus until 1939, when they came to Pelican Rapids to farm. Mrs. Hovland died in 1969. Hovland had lived at the nursing home for the past 8 years. Survivors include four daughters and a son: Mrs. Donald (Mable) Aurland and Mrs. Reuben (Nora) Sherva, both of Northwood, ND.; Mrs. Wm. (Thelma) Stallman of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho; Mrs. John (Alice) Dumond of St. Cloud; and Melvin of Pelican Rapids. He also leaves two brothers and a sister, Ole of Pelican, Melvin of Rothsay, and Mrs. Olaf (Nettie) Amundson of Esmond, ND; 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. | ||||||||||||||||
