Misc. Notes
Gronseth belonged to the frontier area that was quite powerful and was probably part of the Church estate (or land) that at the time of the reformation was transfered over to the Kings Estate. In the land book (agricultural book) from 1588 it was known as the Krnsett, in 1600 the Grnsett. It was used in 1614 by Anders. He had served at Kvisle before he came here. He was on a trip to Numedal in 1634 and there he killed Kittil Medgard from Telemark. He had to pay a fine of 6 1/2 rd. 1 ort for the killing. Erik Kristensen received a lease for half the farm in 1639 and 5 rd. in the first holding, Anders had the other half share of land. From 1642 the farm land was rented and the pay was 1 hide or skin per year to the king. Some years Erik had to say he didn't have one hide or skin than he could use. In 1616 it was noted in the tax list "Be aware this is a reliable half farm but has one place that is desolate and is of little significance." Gronseth was under the Priest Roll until it became reorganized out after 1820.

From 1759 came new people here. [This is our family]. Traveling priest Niels Stockfleth married Kittil Torvaldsen to Kari Klemetsd. They were the first in Skuggerud that they had from 1754. Kari Klemetsd. was from Gseberg in Flesberg (she was out of the line in siblings succession Flesberg IIs, 64) married first Nils Kristoffersen south of Letmolia, had two son. When Nils died she became married to Kittil Torvaldsen from North Letmolia. They became stepparents for many relatives in Sigdal. The children of Kari & Kittil were Nils Kittilsen Gronseth, Torvald Kittilsen Gronseth, Gul Kittilsen Gronseth, Ola Kittilsen Gronseth, Kittil Kittilsen Gronseth Jokstad, and Jran Kittilsd Gronseth Skatvedt.

Kittil had part of share of Skuggerud. It was divided up towards Gren in 1765. Kittil died in 1769. His widow kept the farm until in 1778 she gave it to two sons, Nils and Torvald. They took over one half share each of Gronseth. They have to also divide Tronlia. Priest Caspar Barnholdt gave them paper with lease. Kari Klemetsd. died in 1796.

Tronlia: The first cottager (house) we heard of here was Tron Eriksen Gronseth from 1672. It is possible that Tronlia is named after him.

There are 11 holdings in Gronseth recorded: 1. - Grnset 2. - Grnset 3. - Tronlia 4. - Tronlia 5. - Grnset 6. - Tronlia 7. Tronlia 8. - Solhov 9. - Trollhaugan 10. - Glabakskogen 11. - Olsheim, Glabek, Grnsethagen, Langeljernhaugan, & segarden.
