| Engebret and his wife Inga homesteaded southeast of Rothsay near his brother, Halvor. Engebret's farm was across Moen Lake to the southwest from Halvor's homestead. Engebret's farm was later bought by William Grunewald, who tore down the buildings. William's son, Arthur, still owns the land. One of Engebret's sons lived on the farm for a time after he and Inga died. Inga died of diabetes. Most of the children are buried in Hedemarken Cemetery. Inga died of diabetes when she was 51 and Engebret died nine years later. They had seven children. One of Engebret Moen's horses was taken suddenly sick Friday, when he was on his way to Rothsay with a load of wheat. Oscar. Wheelock's Weekly. December 14, 1889. Engebret E. Moen Rothsay Enterprise May 19, 1923 The death of Engebret E. Moen occurred at his home in Oscar, May 13, from internal cancer. Mr. Moen was born in Norway nearly 70 years ago and came to this country in early life. He settled here in the early seventies and has lived here ever since. His wife died in 1914. He is survived by a family of grown-up children, as follows: Mrs. William Burau and Carl of Elizabeth; Mrs. Harry Nodsle of Maplewood, Albert of North Dakota, and Edwin, Ole and Adolph who reside at home. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Ole Helgeson of this place, and three brothers, Halvor and Erik of Oscar township and Levor of Ullen. The funeral was held Friday from his home and from the Hedemarken church, Rev. U. D. Johnson of Rothsay officiating. The Rothsay Enterprise Saturday, May 19, 1923. | ||||||||||||||||
