| On June 5, 1831 Helge Johnsen Kvie (bachelor/farmer's son) age 28 married J�rand Kvie (girl not married before) age 25. Helge was the son of John Olsen. J�rand was the daughter of Reier Olsen. The name Hestedok is not mentioned at the time of marriage record. They must have gone to Hestedok farm in Nes later, and adopted that name. J�rand Reiersd Hestedok was listed as a widow in 1867 on emigration record and listed as born 9 August 1807. Kari (Helgeson) Moen December 1928 Hallingen Mrs. Erik Moen was one of the early settlers to settle near Rothsay, Minnesota died October 3, 1928. She was born in Flaa, Hallingdal March 17, 1842. Her maiden name was Kari Helgeson. She was married in Norway to Erik Moen 66 years ago. They came to Rock Prairie, Wisconsin in 1867 where they stayed for three years. Then they went accompanied by several relatives west in their covered wagons and found themselves homesteads where they got to be living. They owned only two cows. With hard labor and patience they had plenty for themselves and family. For 15 years Mrs. Moen sat in a chair and from there she supervised with the household duties. The two last years she was bedridden. She bore it with patience and waited to go home to be with the Lord. She and her husband were along and organized the Hedemarken Congregation of which they were members. Of her 7 children she is survived by only two, Mrs. Kari Jorgenson, Erhard and Albert, Norman, ND. Four of the children died of diptheria in the 80's and one daughter died later. She had 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. One graddaughter, Anna Jorgenson stayed and helped her grandparents and now she is staying with her grandfather. Kari Moen's funeral was held in Hedemarken Church with Pastor Emil Salveson officiating. Fergus Falls Weekly, October 18, 1928. Mrs. Erick Moen, Oscar Township Died on October 4, 1928. She was one of the pioneer settlers of Oscar, and was nearly 85 years old, leaving a husband who is nearly 90 years old. Died at her home in Oscar, October 3, 1928, at the age of 86 years. She was born in Flaa, Hallingdal, Norway, March 17, 1842, her maiden name was Kari Helgeson, she was married in Norway to Erick E. Moen 65 years ago. They came to America in 1867 settling in Rock Prairie, Wisconsin, where they lived until 1870 when they immigrated with relatives by covered wagon and ox team to Minnesota. They came to what is now Oscar Township, and located on the homestead which has been their home for over 58 years. Their family rode with Mrs. Moen's brother-in-law and their sister Mr. and Mrs. Christen Jorgenson, and their only possession when they started on the homestead was two cows. They had no oxen until they raised their own. She has known the hardships of pioneer life. By work and thrift they prospered and had plenty for their old age. She was the mother of 7 children, of whom only two survive, Mrs. Kari Jorgenson of Erhard; and Albert of Norma, ND. Her aged husband 89 years of age survives her. | ||||||||||||||||
