Mr. and Mrs. Raynard Carlsrud who live 13 miles southwest of Rothsay have received word of the death of their son Pvt. Oscar Carlsrud, killed in action in New Guinea.

A few days before the Carlsruds had heard of their son's death through a letter written by his pal, Sylvan Jensen, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Jensen, formerly of Rothsay, but now residing in Fergus Falls. Oscar Carlsrud and Sylvan Jensen left Rothsay together to enter the service on Oct. 29, 1942. They trained at Camp Roberts, Ca, and went overseas together on March 28, 1943. Since then they have been in New Guinea.

The letter written by Sylvan Jensen stated that Oscar Carlsrud was killed instantly by a Japanese sniper concealed in a tree a short distance from the camp. Pvt. Carlsrud was a fine young man and he will be mourned by a host of friends and loved ones.

Mr. and Mrs. Carlsrud had three sons in the service--Oscar in New Guinea; Sgt. Ernest Carlsrud who has seen service in Africa, Sicilly, Italy, England and France and is now in an English hospital suffering wounds received in one arm while in action in France; and Cl. Floyd Carlsrud, who is stationed with the Air Force at Langley Field, Va. Cpl. Carlsrud was home when the word was received of his brother's death, but his furlough was up this week and he had to leave for Virginia Monday.

Besides his parents, Pvt. Oscar is survived by ten brothers and sisters -- Eddie, Rudolph, Kenneth and Evelyn, all at home; Mrs. Orvin Wigdahl, Mrs. James Norman, Mrs. Ed Rasmussen and Ole Carlsrud, all of Rothsay community; Cpl. Floyd Carlsrud, Langley Field, FL, and Sgt. Ernest Carlsrud in an English hospital. He was one of a family of 13 children, two brothers having preceded him in death.

The Rothsay Enterprise was being sent to Oscar, as well as it is to Floyd.

Memorial services for Pvt. Carlsrud will be held Thursday (this evening) at 8 o'clock at the Hamar church.

Mr. and Mrs. Carlsrud and family have the deepest sympathy of all in their bereavement.
