Introduction

District 5 Schoolhouse in Akron Township, Wilkin County Minnesota. This School District was one of the first districts in Wilkin County. District 5 was organized October 6, 1876. Three treasurers going back to 1886 were Tollef O. Gronseth, Olaf Felland and Ole A. Smikop. A new school house was built in 1892 and 1893. In the early 1930s fire destroyed the wooden school house and the brick schoolhouse was built. The district was dissolved in June of 1961. Photo taken by Marilyn Moen October 1996.
