                               HUSH PUPPIES

   1       c            Cornmeal
     1/2   c            Self-rising flour
   1       t            Baking powder
     3/4   ts           Salt
     1/4                To
     1/2   c            Chopped onion
   1                    Egg, beaten
     2/3   c            Milk
                        Vegetable oil

  Combine first 5 ingredients in a large bowl.  Add egg
  and milk, stirring just until dry ingredients are
  moistened. Let batter stand 5 minutes.Carefu drop
  batter by rounded tablespoonfuls into deep hot oil
  (375 Fry, turning once, 3 to 5 minutes or until hush
  puppies are golden brown. Drain well on paper towels.
  Yield: about 1-1/2 dozen.
