My paternal Grandmother, Mary Conchetta Orso, was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on January 29, 1898. She was the daughter of Marcellino and Madeleine (DiCaprio) Orso. Marcellino and Madeleine immigrated from Alife, Campania, Italy sometime in the late 1880's or early 1890's. Mary had two sisters, Margaret and Annunciata. There was also a brother who died in infancy and another sister, also named Mary, who died on the voyage to America and was buried at sea.
Mary Conchetta Orso wed Umberto Stortini in 1924. Together they had two sons, Joseph, my father, who was born on September 16, 1925, and Anthony, who was born on March 26, 1927. They remained in Poughkeepsie, living on the farm where Mary was born, until Umberto's death at the age of 88, on February 16, 1976. Mary died in 1989, at the age of 92.
Coincidentally, Mary's sister, Annunciata, married Umberto's brother, Pasquale. Together they had five children, Marcellino, Louis, Ralph, Yolanda, and Pasquale.
