This site: brought many memories back, extremely touching.I remember my mom, sitting on the porch breaking off the ends of the string beans that your dad had left off, from your Grandparents farm.[along with so many more fresh vegetables]I wish I knew then, how important those days would be.

I can certainly relate to your article on growing up "us and them". I too, was raised in an extended italian family environment and regret that my child and my brothers and sisters children will never experience the history, warmth and feeling of belongi g that I had. Thank you for sharing your story with me.

I ran across your site as I was researching Italian family traditions. I'm not Italian (not that I know of anyway) but I want to start a tradition with my children with a monthly study of a country, it's culture, traditions and it's food. The grand final would be an authentic meal/celebration. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Stumbled onto your page. It is rare to find Italian ancestory from "Le Marche" Region on the Internet. My mother was from San Severino Marche, Macerata Province, Marche Region. As a young girl she went to the beach at Civitanova. I have old postcards from the sixties and 70's when she went back to visit, showing the town and beach at Civitanova. My father was from area around Pesaro, up the Adriatic Coast in Province of Pesaro. I visited the Marche for the first time this past summer. I have traced my pate nal and maternal ancestors back 4 generations. Le Marche is beautiful. A hidden treasure of Italy. I hope it can stay that way a little longer.

I enjoyed your site so much. Though I must say it made me sad to remember our family's Sunday pasta. My nonna Josephine Mangieri, was the center of our family until she passed away in the 70's. I miss the years of growing up in Brooklyn with my family ll together. I. too feel that being Italian is very special, it's not just a heritage, it's a way of life, and of living. And food....we live to eat, right? I can still remember getting off the school bus and walking home...I could smell the sauce cook ng all the way down the block! I miss those days very much. I do still have my mother and sister, and every time we are together we talk about the past and how wonderful it was. Thanks for this site, it's a great reminder.

I've really enjoyed my visit. I loved reading your recollections of growing up Italian. I am not Italian by birth, but I've acquired an Italian last name through marriage. (right now I'm craving a pepper and egg sandwich, my mother-in-law feeds them to us every time we visit). I also laughed when I read your description of an Italian holiday meal. It reminded me of the first time I went to my then future in-laws for Thanksgiving. I was the guest, so I was ordered to sit in the living room while dinne was prepared, so I had no idea what was to come. I ate with relish the antipasto, Wedding soup, and homemade ravioli. Little did I know that the second course would be a complete American Thanksgiving dinner. Of course I couldn't offend anyone by not ating, so I pretty much just ate until I was ready to explode! Since then I've learned to pace myself.
