Ruby, Please refer to your recent posting re subject Thomas Stockstill. I am
posting below the 1850, 1860 and 1870 data for that family. I would like to
have any subsequent census data for that family that you may have. My belief
is that all available census data for each family must be collected as a
foundation for genealogy research. Of course, the census data can be flawed as
all other genealogy data is also flawed. However, after collecting several
decades of census on any family the truth or close to it will emerge or doubts
and conflicts will be raised for further research and confirmation.

I have an undocumented report that Thomas married Martha A. "Patsy" Roberts in
March 1847 in Greene County, Missouri. This conflicts with your date of 22
Aug 1847. Have you documented your marriage date? If not, we have the Greene
County marriage records in our Historical Library here in OK City and I will
check on that date when next I am at the library.

There were prominent Roberts families who were very early immigrants to Warren
Co., TN abt 1800. Martha may be a descendant of one of those families. Do you
have any idea who her father might be? I have a lot of Warren County Roberts
data in my family file. Many Warren County family members moved to MO and
northwest Ark in the early 1830s.

I am not a Stockstill or Roberts descendant but my
Godard/Drake/Vaughan/Sparkman/Hollingsworth, etc. line married into many of
the early Warren/White/Van Buren Cos., TN families.

Regards,

Ken Robertson

I am descended from the subject lady and her first husband Richard Burks, d
ca 1816, specifically through their youngest son Richard P. Burks, b 1
Dec 1816, Warren Co, TN. I know that after being widowed, Mary married
Levi Edge and had more children. I am trying to determine her parents,
find her marriage to Burks, and the names of the other Burks children.
Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

Subject: Some Stockstill data

To the Stockstill researchers,
I picked up several items at the Tennessee Archives that were new to me.
Perhaps you already have the information but will relay the items to you.

First, I found in the Tennessee Supreme Court records a ten page file
on a suit brought by Elisha Stockstill and Robert W. Kerby, Administrators of
Zebidee Stockstill, deceased, against William McMahan, Jonathan McMahan and
William West (Elisha Reynolds added later). The suit started in 1833 and was
finalized in 1835. The suit was eventually ruled in favor of the
administrators in an amount in excess of $400. This is the first document I
have found relating to Zebediahs estate. The file is ten full pages and it
will take a while to transcribe. Unfortunately, there are no references to
other family members or estate matters. I can scan these pages and send them
via e-mail to those who want a copy or can make copies and send through the
snail mail.
Second, I found a Stockstill reference in the "Private Acts Passed at
the First Session of the State of Tennessee - 1833" as follows.
                                Chapter XVIII.
An act to change the name of Thomas Gilbert Hester, to Thomas Gilbert
Stockstill.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Tennessee, That Thomas
Gilbert Hester, of Warren county, shall hereafter be known by the name of
Thomas Gilbert Stockstill, and shall be joint heir of his natural father,
Elisha Stockstill, as if born in lawful wedlock.
                                            F. W. HULING,
                                       Speaker of the House of
Representatives.
                                            D. BURFORD,
                                              Speaker of the Senate.
Passed October 3, 1833

Let me have your comments on these items.

My gg grandmother was Mary Anna Stogsdill b: May 30 1866 in Delphy Iowa,
d:Feb 21 1934 in Riverside Co. Calif. She was buried in Memorial Park
Cemetery in Kansas City KS next to her husband George E. Cozine. She
married George on March 4 1882 in Emporia Kansas. Together they had 13
children.

Mary's parents were: William Riley Stogsdill b:abt 1823 in KY and Nancy Jane
Minear they were married May 23 1861 in Polk Co. Iowa. Besides Mary they
had a son Charles Elias Stogsdill b: Aug 11 1880 in Emporia Kansas, d: Apr
19 1954 in Riverside Co. Calif. Other children of theirs were, Louisa b:1862
in IN, William R. b: 1863 in IN, Thomas b: 1868 in IN. I found there names
on a 1870 census in Polk Co. Iowa. Although the surname was spelled
Stockdale. I believe that there was also a daughter named Ella, but have not
been able to confirm it yet.

If anyone knows of this family line, I would like to exchange information.
Sorry to be so windy, but I have two teenagers at home, so I babble alot!
Thanks for letting me post.

My name is Faith Stockstill Wagner. I got your E-mail address off of the
"Malone" family tree guest book. Thought I would drop you a line. My
father was Donald Clinton Stockstill and Grandfather was Clinton ?
Stockstill. My Grandfather was from Picayune Mississippi originally, but
moved to Michigan. I have been told I still have a few relatives in
Mississippi. I am the last branch on this family tree - no males to carry
on the Stockstill name. Do you have any Clinton's in your family tree?

I found John, Tom, and Troy in a census living with an older woman I
presumed to be their mother. I could not read the name however. I think
it may have been Mary. I do have approximate birth dates for John and
Tom from that census that I have not placed in my database yet, I will try
and pull the info. Troy was a cowboy who was killed by cattle rustlers
while herding some cattle. Olive Watson Stockstill is my GG
grandmother. I have some evidence that her mothers name may actually
be Georigia Anne King.

Hi Jacque,

I went back through some old records I have on Stockstills and found
something I think you will be interested in:

The following information is from Mrs. Woodrow Wilburn.....

"David Stockstill and his wife Elizabeth Proctor were the parents of

Zebedee
Catherine brn 1825..........married Edmond Bowles
Huldah..............................married Thomas Phillip Bowles II
Susan.................................married John Langdon Bowles
buried
Watts, OK

This family was in TN and moved to Dade Co, MO (I am not sure who in
the
family moved to MO, this is not clear)

These three Stockstill sisters married three Bowles brothers."
