1 Thess. 5:17-18 - Pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Oh, what a BIG difference it makes to have a little talk with Jesus! It doesn't take long to make our requests known to Him. We make all kinds of excuses and give all kinds of reasons why we can't spend time with the Lord, but God's not listening to our excuses. He's requiring our obedience. Obedience is better than sacrifice. We make time for everything else in our lives, it's time we make time for Jesus. He should be "number one" in our lives. If we're not right with God, the blessing will not be there. If we don't make the time, in our busy schedules, to pray, He will not be pleased with us.
The Lord desires to have fellowship with His people. That's one of the reasons why He created us. He wants to commune with us and bless us. He wants to open up the windows of heaven and pour out blessings upon us that we can't contain. That's the Father's heart. He's not a God who sits up in heaven with a holy whip waiting to come down on us everytime we make a mistake or do something wrong. He wants to bless His people. There are times when He does show His righteous anger, but most of the time He longs to have fellowship with us.
"I don't have time to pray. I have four children and I'm constantly trying to take care of them, feed them, change their diapers, clean their messes. Who has time for God?" If we don't take time to have those "little talks with Jesus," those children are going to suffer as a result of our disobedience. Parents, we can't live without Him. We need Him operating in our lives. We need Holy Spirit ministering to us, giving us wisdom and understanding regarding the upbringing of our children. I believe our children will be blessed as a result of our obedience to spend time in prayer with the Lord. I believe the blessing will not only be upon us, but it will also be upon our children. We make time for everything else. We make time to watch those soap operas - Monday through Friday. We make time to call sister Jones on the telephone and talk to her for two hours. "Oh, but I don't have time for God!" Friend, you need to MAKE TIME for God. Without Him, you won't make it. We need to throw all of our excuses out the window, because they will not stand up in the court of heaven. Let's get real! Let's get down to where the rubber meets the road and get right with God. Let's work on our relationship with Him.
You can't have an intimate relationship with someone if you never talk to them or spend time with them. How would your marriage relationship be if you never spent time with your husband? How would your marriage relationship be, if you slept in one room and your husband slept in another room? I can probably, truthfully say, it wouldn't last very long. The relationship would deteriorate. The husband would start looking for relationship elsewhere.
Relationship is relating with another person - Enjoying one another's presence - Having contact with an individual. We need to have contact with Jesus. We need to have the same mentality as the woman with the issue of blood had when she determined in her heart that she was going to get to Jesus and no one was going to stop her. She kept speaking to herself, "I've got to touch Him! I've got to get to Jesus! If I can just touch Him, I'll be made whole." When she made contact with Jesus, the power of God came into her body and restored her health completely! It's time to make contact with Jesus. Reach out and touch Him, friend. We can touch Him through prayer. We can touch Him by singing songs to Him and telling Him how much we love Him.
I've had little children come up to me and tell me, "I love you." You talk about touching my heart. Those three words touched me. We can touch Jesus with the words we speak and the prayers we pray. When our prayers reach Jesus, virtue will flow from Him into our beings. Healing power will flow from His throne. Miracle working power will be prevalent in our midst. He will encourage us and minister to us by His Spirit.
He not only wants us to talk to Him, but He wants to talk to us. He wants to speak to our hearts. In order for us to hear Him speak, we must listen. It's okay to make our requests known to God, but there are times when we need to "be still" in His presence and listen to what He has to speak to us. God wants to speak to you. The God of the universe wants to minister to you. That's an awesome thing! He takes time to speak to us. He takes time to encourage us and pour His blessings upon us. Let's take time to be with Him. Let's take time out of our busy schedules to have a "little talk with Jesus."
The song says, "Just a little talk with Jesus makes it right." Your little talk with Jesus can change your whole mentality and way of thinking. Your little talk with Jesus can change your life and the lives of your children. Your little talk with Jesus can make everything right. Oh, friend, we can't afford to miss it. Let Jesus be your priority. Let's get our priorities in order. Jesus first! Everything else will fall in line as we serve Him.
Have you had that "little talk with Jesus" today? If not, I believe He's waiting to hear from you.
