July Devotion!

I was reading 2 Thessalonians today, and I came across a couple of Scriptures that really caught my attention. Let me share them with you today.

2 Thess. 3:1-2 - Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified, just as it is with you, and that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men; for not all have faith.

Paul was asking the brothers and sisters at Thessalonica to pray for Silvanus, Timothy and himself.

1. Pray that the word of the Lord may run swiftly.
They didn't want to waste any time in what they were doing. They wanted to preach the word and reach as many people as they could with the Gospel message. They also wanted the word of God to do a quick work in those who received it.

We must get the word of God out to the lost and dying of this world while there is still time to do so.

I've been amazed at those who do not want to hear the Gospel message of life, hope and forgiveness. Sometimes, I think, "How can they not listen to this wonderful news!" But, when I look back at my life, I see that I was guilty of doing the very same thing. People would tell me the Gospel message of salvation, and I would tell them where to go. I didn't want to hear it. Thank God for those who prayed for me! Thank God certain individuals never gave up on me! Their prayers worked. God began to open my eyes and ears to what the people were saying. He began to draw me unto Himself by His Spirit. Thank God, He never gave up on me.

The Lord doesn't want us to give up on others either. He desires that all men be saved. So, we must pray!

2. He wanted the word to be glorified.
Who is the word? Let's find out.

John 1:14 - And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Scripture says, "The Word became flesh and dwelt among us." Who is this talking about? It's talking about Jesus. The Word became flesh. Jesus came in the flesh. He dwelt among us. He lived on earth. Paul was saying, "I want Jesus to be glorified in all that we do and speak."

3. Pray that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men; for not all have faith.
In case you haven't come to realize this; not all men and women love Jesus. Not all have faith in God. Not all believe like you and I believe. There are many religions, many beliefs, many philosophies, and many cults! Paul wanted the believers to pray for God to deliver them from these kinds of people. Why? Because, these people were those who wanted to kill, steal, and destroy. These people were people who really hated Paul and his associates. They were accusers, backbiters, and haters of all that was good. They were unreasonable men. Paul couldn't reason with them. He couldn't talk to them in a decent manner because their eyes were blind and their ears were deaf. Their assignment was to destroy God's people and God's kingdom.

We must be careful who we fellowship with. We must be careful who we hang out with. Who are your friends? Who do you spend most of your time with? Remember, that birds of a feather flock together.

I can "usually" tell a lot about someone, just by watching who they hang out with. Choose friends carefully. Don't run around with just anybody. Some people can drag you down. Some people can drain the life out of you. Some people can be a temptation to you in a physical way. Be careful. Make wise choices. If you put yourself in unholy places with unholy people, you just might find yourself getting involved in unholy things. It happens to the best of us. Be wise, my friend.

Paul wanted people praying for him. He understood the power of prayer. We should be thankful when we find out that someone has been praying for us. What a blessing. Why? Because, God answers prayer! He's a prayer answering Jesus!

If you need prayer, please send us your prayer requests.
