What Every Christian Should Know About Easter!

Gal. 4:8-11 - Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods. But now that you know God-or rather are known by God - how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable prinicples? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again? You are observing special days and months and seasons and years. I fear for you, that somehow I have wasted my efforts on you.

What does all this Easter stuff mean?
What's the big deal anyway?

How did the passover lamb get switched to an Easter bunny?

Under the definition for Easter in Webster's Dictionary (College Edition) one finds: "originally the name of pagan vernal festival . . . Eastre, dawn goddess." Further reading in an encyclopedia, or most books on the holidays will identify this Eastre with the pagan goddess known variously as Eostre, Ishtar, Semeramis, and Astarte. This is the same Babylonian "Queen of Heaven," whose worship is condemned in the Word of God (see Jeremiah Chapters 7 and 44).

The egg-laying rabbit: Since ancient times, pagans have worshipped rabbits as sex and fertility gods, and have looked upon them as symbols of lust, sexual vigor, and reproduction. In the traditions of Egypt and Persia, there are such rabbit gods, and they were particularly honored in the Springtime.

Eggs have also been a symbol of fertility, sex and new life. The Orphic legend of the origin of the Universe has the earth being hatched out of an enormous egg. In a broad range of pagan societies, from Egypt and Mesopotamia to the British Iles, brightly decorated eggs were (and still are) presented as gifts and charms to bring fertility and sexual success each spring.

Christians should not take part in the celebration of pagan holidays. We must keep our focus upon Jesus. We must study history and find out truth concerning everything that we are being taught. It's the TRUTH that will set us all free. When we accepted Christ, we were brought out of pagan customs and we must not return to them. Jesus must be LORD of our lives! If we are going to celebrate, let's celebrate Jesus! Let's celebrate the joy of our salvation!

Everyday is a celebration when you KNOW the Lord.

Do you know Jesus Christ as your personal savior?
If not, now is the time for you to accept Him.
