Return to the Eyes Have it Page
Thanks for your reply. No, I don't have RP, buy it takes some explanation.
Yes, I have been to doctors, specialists and more specialists over some 60
years and I do have retinal problems, but not RP even though many of the
symtoms aresimilar. The defective gene, in my case, is carried throught the
father and has shown up two generations in a row. Thankfully it now seems to
be either dormant or dead forever since my children and grandchildren appear
to have normal vision. But back to my eyesight or lack thereof. My eyes are
the wrong shape - more like football rather than baseballs, without the
stitching or laces, of course. Consequently, my retinas have been stretched
since birth, or even before, and the blood supply has been less than
adequate for normal growth and function. Thus, the retinas deteriorate
continuously. I've had two retinal detachments (os and od) both repaired by
a super surgeon back in New York. I still have a fair amount of visual
acuity, but a limited field, etc., etc.
Nonetheless, I have experienced the problems associated with the visually
handicapped and would like to help anyone who asks. So, if anyone is
interested in learning what's the blind scene in this part of the world feel
free to give them my email address.
Keep in touch, and thanks for your wonderful website, a great resource for
all of us Bats out here.
Much ALOHA
