Obituary
Saturday the 23rd an event occured that cast a deep shade of sorrowand painful regret over the hearts of the people of this community. Itwas the sad announcement of the
death of our valued friend and neighbor,John Ross Piper. He had been sick for two years and for some time past little or no hope for his recovery. In notices of this kind the virtues of the deceased are said in some Instances to be exaggerated, but in the present case the simplest statement of the true character of the deceased could be nothing but a high and appreciated eulogy. No one could be more dearly beloved or highly respected than he was by all of his neighbors. The deceased was born near Bluffs, Scott Co., Ill, on June 29, 1865. He was the second son of John and Mary A. Piper and was an ever loving and dutiful son. He came to Missouri with his parents February 1879. He was married to Miss Mollie Bolen on April 1st, 1894. To this union three children were born, John A. thirteen years old, Elizabeth A. eleven and Lillie Mabel eight. He is survived by his wife, three children, father, mother, three brothers and one sister. He was converted in November 1901 and united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church November 20, 1904,was elected deacon May 21, 1905 of which he has been a consistent member till God called him away. During all of his terrible afflictions he was never heard to murmur. The funeral took place at Union Chapel where the Rev. S. H. Murry of the Cumberland Presbyterian church preached a very impressive sermon. He will be missed in the church, in the community, and oh, how he will be missed in the home. But we hope to meet him and clasp glad hands where there will be no pain, no tears and above all, no death to rob us of dear ones.
A FRIEND.

Obituary

Carlos A. Piper third son of John F. and Mary A. Piper was born Oct. 28th 1870 in Scott County, ILL., died at his home in Clarksdale, Mo., June 11th 1913, leaving surviving him
a wife and three children, an aged father and mother, two brothers, one sister and a host friends and relatives to mourn his departure. Carl had been a sufferer for a long time yet bore his sad affliction with patience and long suffering. Through it all a smile and a hearty handshake greeted those who so often called, and when the final summons came, it can be truly said that he met his end in peace. His sun has set, no more upon this mortal sphere will the familiar form brighten the home or bring happiness and sunshine to the little family circle. Ties have been severed that never can be reunited this side of Eternity. Yet God has willed, and the bereaved hearts can only seek consolation in fond remembrances of the departed one. A large concourse of people were in attendance at the funeral, which was conducted by the Rev. Thurman Bowen of the M.E. Church at (?) after which the body was laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery adjoining. No more his smiling face, No more his voice we hear; No more upon the threshold Will the familiar form n' appear. Yet God is good; He knoweth best, He doeth all things meek; And methinks in yonder glorious land, Carl walk the pearly streets. L.L.C
