The Second Great Awakening

The Second Great Awakening may be said to have started with the three week long revival meeting which began in August of 1801 in Cane Ridge, Kentucky.
This great revival movement was mainly a trans-Appalachian phenomenon and just as the original Great Awakening had prepared people's hearts and minds for the idea of freedom from Britain, so the Second Great Awakening was a mighty force for the abolition of slavery.

Historians disagree (!) about how long this revival movement lasted and when the next began, and so on regarding the 4th and/or 5th Awakenings.
Perhaps the cycle of revival in America coincides with economics; that when we've got things real cushy, we can't help but look around and think, "Who does all this stuff belong to anyway?"
Then again, maybe it's the other way round.
Suffice to say that God can raise up children of Abraham from stones whenever He wants to.
