To the Soup Bean Mix, I add the Pearl Barley and Oat Groats. Cook the Soup Bean Mix according to the directions on the package. In the summer, I add fresh vegies to bean mix; however, in the winter, I use frozen mixed vegies. Whatever is not included in the frozen package that I wish to include or I can get fresh, I cook and add to the Bean Mix. While the Soup Bean Mix is cooking, I cook the rice, grits, and pasta seperately.

Once all of the items have been cooked, I mix them all together. Then I rinse, and rinse, and rinse, etc. until the water runs clear. The reason for rinsing the mixture is to remove the sediments that tend to spoil quickly.

Once the mixture has been rinsed and drained, I divide it up into 1 quart containers and freeze until needed. If you have a few birds, you can freeze it in ice trays. Once frozen, package the cubes in plastic freezer bags. The cubes can be removed and used as single servings. When we had just two tiels, this is the method I used and I found it to work great.

Refrigerate unused portion. Of course, since we have so many birds, we usually do not have much left over. I do not use the leftovers if they have been refrigerated for more than 2 days. I'm not sure what the safe time limit is.

Before I serve this bean mix, I add Prime vitamins to insure against deficencies.
