Obituary of David I. Thompson, Mount Olive Tribune
"Our community was grieved this week by the loss of one of its best citizens, Mr. David I. Thompson, whose sad demise occurred Tuesday shortly after the noon hour, at his home in Mount Olive (Wayne County, NC), after a desperate illness extending over five weeks whith typhoid fever complicated with pneumonia. Mr. Thompson conducted a blacksmith and repair shop here, and was well thought of by the people of the community. He was a man of few words, of quiet and unassuming nature, and was honest to the letter in his dealings with his fellowman. The deceased was about 51 years of age, and is survived by his wife and three children, who have the abiding sympathy of our people in their sad bereavement. Mr. Thompson was a member of North Creek Baptist Church. The remains were interred in the Vernon grave-yard yesterday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. "
David I. Thompson was born 8 April, 1857. He first married Virginia Hughes. She died shortly thereafter 2 July, 1897. 29 January, 1898 David Thompson married Ida Jackson Pate, daughter of John Lewis and Barbara Allen Kornegay Pate. The couple reared three children:
