Best Family

The immigrant ancestor of our Best family was Henry Best who sailed from England to Isle of Wight County, Virginia ca. 1732. He later received land grants in what is now Wayne and Greene Counties in North Carolina totaling 2,325 acres. Henry Best built two houses. One of them was between Snow Hill and Greenville near Jerusalem Church. This house was begun in 1735. It still stands today (1997).
Henry Best married Elizabeth Godwin. He and Elizabeth reared at least eight children, seven known sons, and one known daughter.
