Nicholas Kuhlman, Americanized to Coleman, came to America aboard the ship, "Penn Packet," arriving 31 October, 1768. Nicolas Coleman, and Jacob Coleman (believed to be a son of Nicolas Coleman) signed the ship roster 3 October, 1768. The Coleman family, like so many other German immigrants, made the long trek down the Great Wagon Road from Philadelphia, through the Valley of Virginia, to the foot hills of Carolina. They settled in the Dutch Buffalo Creek area of what is now Cabarrus County, North Caorlina. The wife of Nicolas Coleman was Margaret Coleman (maiden name unknown). Nicolas and Margaret Coleman reared a family of at least three sons. Their names were Jacob Coleman (born prior to 1755, died 1786), Mark Coleman (born prior to 1755, died 1817), and Philip Coleman (born prior to 1755, died after 5 May, 1828).
