Report of Dead and Wounded Georgia Militia Troops
Battle of Calabee (Challibee)
January 27, 1814
The following list names all the Georgia militia soldiers under the command of General John Floyd who were killed or wounded during the battle of Calabee (Challibee), fought on the morning of January 27, 1814, in what is now Macon County, Alabama (near Tuskegee). The list was reported by Hospital Surgeon Charles Williamson, in which he summed a total of 17 soldiers killed and 152 wounded, not counting 5 "friendly Indians" killed and 15 wounded. The original list is broken down by regiment or batallion and company, and I have alphabetized all names within each company designation.
I transcribed this list from the typescript copy in the Georgia Military Affairs volume at the Georgia Department of Archives and History in Atlanta as a part of my Piedmont Georgia Roots page, focusing on the military service of my ancestor David Rowe (1792-1870), who survived the battle as a private in Captain Adam Heeth's company in the 1st Regiment of Georgia Militia (see below).
