May God watch over us as we look to Him for clarity and unity regarding this great Prophesy that He has left for us. May He guide our thoughts, our words and our conversation and may He grace us by allowing His Holy Spirit to be present with us.

A Prophesy from John: Answer each question after reading Rev. 1:1-8.

  1. Who is the Author of this Prophesy? (Careful!)
  2. What promises does it make to those who reads and teaches the words written?
  3. Who is the writing addressed to?
  4. What title is Jesus Christ given in verse 5?
  5. What IMPORTANT fact is given about Christ regarding Him as Conqueror and King?
  6. According to verse 6, what is OUR role to be according to God's will?
  7. How will we know Christ has returned? Who will know this?
  8. What will our response be during His Second Coming?

A Vision of the Living Lord: Answer each question after reading Rev. 1:9-20.

  1. In light of this great Prophesy, what does John claim to be from the outset?
  2. Note carefully the words of encouragement that he shares with us. Is John writing this to glorify himself?
  3. Where was John when Christ spoke to him? Why do you think he was there? What day was it?
  4. What happened to John? Is this Book the result of heavy research and based on personal speculation?
  5. What were the Lord's instructions to John?
  6. Does the Book say anything about the seven churches (yet) other than what they were? Where were they located?
  7. What is significant about the description of the Son of Man? What is consistent in every aspect of His appearance?
  8. What did His voice sound like? Compare the following Scripture verses: Ezekiel 3: 12-13 and Acts 2:2
  9. Consider verse 16, does this description match that of the Man Christ was during His First Coming? Is it consistent?
  10. Upon looking at the Son of Man, what happened to John?
  11. What is the response of the Son of Man? Is it consistent with the Man Christ was during His First Coming?
  12. What similarities can you see between what the Son of Man says in vv. 17-20 and the way He taught his disciples in the Gospels?
  13. Note verse 1:18 and compare it with Matthew 16.19. Is this Son of Man Jesus Christ?
  14. Does He want this Prophesy to be a mystery, which no man can solve? How can you tell? Is this consistent with the Man Christ was during His First Coming?
  15. What is the significance of "stars and lampstands"? Why did He compare the seven angels (messengers) and the seven churches to these things?
