Winnetka Community Guide
Community Overview
Winnetka is a village of about 12,000 18 miles north of downtown Chicago. While mostly residential, there are several small commercial districts. The Winnetka Community House serves to house various organizations and community activities in Winnetka. Elementary school districts 36 and 37 serve Winnetka, and grade school students go on to New Trier High School, District 203. (See below for details on schools).
Transportation needs are served by area highways (I-94/Edens Expwy.), and major local roads (Green Bay Rd., Willow Rd., Sheridan Rd.). Commuter service to downtown is provided by Metra. Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 27 minutes (express). Local bus service is available from PACE. The RTA Travel Info. Number is 1-800-972-7000.
