Community Overview
Wayne, a town of about 2,000, is 34 miles west of downtown Chicago. Exclusively residential, Wayne has a few small businesses and local residents can shop at the nearby Stratford Square Mall. Children attend Elgin district U-46 schools, of which Wayne Elementary School lies within the town limits. (See below for details on schools).
Transportation needs are served by area highways ((North/South Tollway (I-355), East-West Tollway (I-88)) and major local roads (Army Trail Rd., Rt. 59/Ingallton Rd.). Commuter service to downtown is provided by Metra at the West Chicago or Bartlett stations. Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 60 minutes. Local bus service is available from PACE.
