Stickney is a village about 8 miles southwest of downtown Chicago. Forest Preserve land along the Des Plaines River and Salt Creek offers biking and hiking trails. Neighboring communities, including Berwyn, offer Park District recreation programs. Brookfield Zoo is also nearby. Grade school-aged children attend district 103 schools, while secondary students go to Morton West High School, district 201, in neighboring Berwyn. (See below for details on schools).

Transportation needs are served by area highways (I-290/Eisenhower Expwy.), and major local roads (Cermak Road, Cumberland Ave., Harlem Ave.).
