Community Overview
South Holland is a largely residential village of about 22,000 23 miles south of downtown Chicago. The town encourages commercial development through tax incentive programs. Grade school-aged children attend schools in districts 150 and 151, while secondary students go to Thornwood, Thornridge or Thornton High Schools, all in district 205. (See below for details on schools).
Transportation needs are served by area highways (I-80/294 (Tri-State Tollway), I-90, I-94/Dan Ryan Expwy.), and major local roads (159th. St., Indiana Ave., Halsted St.). Commuter service to downtown is provided by the Metra Electric Line (ME) in Harvey. Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 35 minutes (express). Local bus service is available from PACE. The RTA Travel Info. Number is 1-800-972-7000.
