Shorewood Community Guide
Community Overview
Shorewood is a village of about 6,800 40 miles southwest of downtown Chicago. While primarily residential, retail development includes the New Crossroads Plaza strip mall and a new car dealership at I-55 (Stevenson Expwy.) and Rt. 52. Grade school children attend schools in district 30-C, while secondary students go to Joliet West High School, district 204, or Minooka High School, district 111. Recreational opportunities include the facilities of the local parks, along with biking and hiking paths. Residents can also take advantage of the park district programs in Joliet. (See below for details on schools).
Transportation needs are served by area highways (I-55, I-80), and major local roads (I-53, Rt. 52). Commuter service to downtown is provided by Metra in Joliet. Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 45 minutes (express). Local bus service is available from PACE. The RTA Travel Info. Number is 1-800-972-7000.
