Riverwoods Community Guide
Community Overview
Riverwoods is a village of about 2,900 21 miles north of downtown Chicago. Heavily wooded, much of the housing is hidden from open view. Elementary schoolchildren attend Bannockburn School, district 106 or district 109 schools and go on to Deerfield High School in district 113. Nearby Deerfield provides recreational opportunities through its Park District and residents can purchase a library card entitling them to its public library services. (See below for details on schools).
Transportation needs are served by area highways (I-41-94/Edens Expwy., I-294/Tri-State Tollway),and major local roads (Deerfield Rd., Waukegan Rd.). Commuter service to downtown is provided by Metra-Milwaukee District North Line (MD-N). Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 30 minutes (express). Facilities: News & Details: Most of the classes and activities are held at the Jewett Park Community Center, 836 Jewett Drive. The Community Center houses a Fieldhouse for Fitness Classes and a Senior Center. Sports Activities, including leagues, are held at a variety of locations including Sunset Park, Highland Park, and Shepard Junior High. Deerfield High School Pool is the site of Public Swimming in the fall and winter. COHO Swim Club, which meets at Deerfield and Highland Park High Schools, offers Swim Team experience for ages 5-Senior Adult. Briarwood Park/Nature Area, Greenbriar Dr. & Eastwood, features a nature walk, tennis courts, ball diamond, playground and picnic areas. Deerspring Park, 200 Deerfield Rd., offers water activities as well as tennis and volleyball. Most of the parks have playgrounds.
