Mokena Community Guide
Community Overview
Mokena is a largely rural village of about 6,100 35 miles southwest of downtown Chicago. Recreational opportunities include the facilities of the local parks. Most grade school-aged children attend Mokena elementary school district 159 schools, the rest go to district 157C or 161 in Frankfort. Secondary students attend Lincoln-Way High School, district 210. (See below for details on schools).
Transportation needs are served by area highways (I-57, I-80, I-55/Stevenson Expwy., I-94, 294/Tri-State Tollway),and major local roads (U.S. 45/LaGrange Rd., U.S. 30/Lincoln Hwy.). Commuter service to downtown is provided by the Metra Rock Island Line (RI). Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 60 minutes. Local bus service is available from PACE.
