Harvey/Dixmoor Community Guide
Community Overview
Harvey is a village of about 30,000 20 miles south of downtown Chicago. Several companies operate plants in and around the town. Recreational opportunities include the programs of the Park District; and the facilities of nearby Forest Preserves. Grade school-aged children attend schools in districts 147, 151, and 152, while secondary students go to district 205 or 228 schools. (See below for details on schools).
Transportation needs are served by area highways (I-80/294 (Tri-State Tollway), I-90, I-94/Dan Ryan Expwy.), I-394/Calumet Expwy., I-57, and major local roads (159th. St., Indiana Ave., Halsted St.). Commuter service to downtown is provided by the Metra Electric Line (ME) in Harvey. Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 30-35 minutes. Local bus service is available from PACE.
