Glencoe Community Guide
Community Overview
Glencoe is a village of about 8,500 22 miles north of downtown Chicago. It borders Lake Michigan and provides a beach for residents, as well as tennis courts, golf courses, and bicycle and jogging trails. Boaters can use the facilities at nearby Wilmette Harbor. The Chicago Botanical Gardens is nearby at Dundee & Lake Cook Roads. The downtown area consists of a variety of small businesses and services. Elementary school children attend district 35 schools, while secondary students attend New Trier High School in Winnetka. (See below for details on schools).
Transportation needs are served by area highways (I-94-Edens Expwy.), and major local roads (Rt. 68-Dundee Rd., Green Bay Rd.). Commuter service to downtown is provided by Metra. Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 30 minutes (express). Local bus service is available from PACE. The RTA Travel Info. Number is 1-800-972-7000.
