Crystal Lake Community Guide
Community Overview
Crystal Lake is a village of about 25,000 49 miles northwest of downtown Chicago. While mainly residential, with resort areas, Crystal Lake has industrial development, including the Crystal Lake Business Center and is the home-base for nearly 20 manufacturing firms. The town also the largest commercial and retail center in McHenry County. Recreational opportunities include the programs of the Park District. Most grade schoolchildren attend district 47 schools, with the remainder served by Prairie Grove district 46. Secondary students go to Crystal Lake Central or South High School, district 155. Three religious schools, one Catholic, and the others Lutheran, are located in Crystal Lake. (See below for details on schools).
Transportation needs are served by area highways (I-90/Northwest Tollway), and major local roads (Rt. 14/Northwest Hwy., Rt. 22). Commuter service to downtown is provided by Metra. Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 70 minutes. The RTA Travel Info. Number is 1-800-972-7000.
