Community Overview
Crete is a village of about 6,700 32 miles south of downtown Chicago. The village maintains its country-like atmosphere, with new residential developments designed to conform to the village's original character. Monee is a village of about 1,050 25 miles south of downtown Chicago. The village is primarily residential, with a small town atmosphere. Recreational opportunities include the programs of the Park Districts, and hundreds of acres of forest preserves, much of which is used for horseback riding. School-aged children attend unit district 201. (See below for details on schools).
Transportation needs are served by area highways (I-57, I-80, I-94/Calumet Expwy.), and major local roads (Rt. 1, Crete-Monee Rd, Western Ave., Cicero Ave.). Commuter service to downtown is provided by the Metra Electric Line (ME). Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 60 minutes. Local bus service is available from PACE.
