Community Overview
Batavia is a village of about 17,000 35 miles west of downtown Chicago. Fermilab is located in Batavia and has a 10-acre natural grasslands restoration on its grounds which draws schoolchildren and others. Schoolchildren attend unit District 101 schools. Recreational opportunities include the programs and facilities of the Park District.
Transportation needs are served by area highways ((Eisenhower Expwy. - I-290, Tri-State (I-294), North/South Tollway (I-355), East-West Tollway (I-88)) and major local roads (Rte. 38 - Roosevelt Rd., Routes 31, 56, and 25). Commuter service to downtown is provided by Metra at the West Chicago station. Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 50 minutes. Local bus service is available from PACE.
