Oakley & others to Cartmill Deed
This indenture made this 22nd day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty four between William Oakley and Martha, his wife of the County of Bath and State of Kentucky of the one part and David Cartmill of the County aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the same William Oakley and Martha, his wife and in consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars to them in hand Paid by the the said David Cartmill before the signing, sealing and delivering of these presents. The receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, hath this day granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell, alien and convey to the said David Cartmill, his heirs and assigns all our right, title and interest in ----to a certain tract or parcel of land situate and being in the County of Bath and on the waters of Slate Creek and now in the possession of said David Cartmill. The same being the interest in said tract of land which is descendedto us by the said William Oakley of my brother John P. Oakley, which he entitled to from my-----estate. The same being the intire interest of the said William Oakley and John P. Oakley to the aforesaid tract or parcel of land as above described together with all and singular the appertenances there unto belonging to----and to hold the aforesaid bargained and sold land and premises together with all and singular the appertenances thereunto belonging or anywise appertaining to him the said David Cartmill his heirs and assigns to there only------benefit and behoof forever and the said William Oakley and Martha, his wife do agree to and-----said David Cartmill that they the said William and Martha, his wife will warrant and defend the aforesaid land and premises--------soever claiming through, by or under them the said David Cartmill his heirs and assigns forever and the said William Oakley and Martha his wife do further covenant and agree with the said David Cartmill that in case the aforesaid bargained and sold land and premises shall be lost by any claim or claims whatsoever that they the said William Oakley and Martha, his wife will in that event refund the purchase money of the aforesaid land and premises with interest. In testimony whereof we have set our hands and affixed our seals.

I Harper P. Hunt, Deputy of William M. Sudduth Clerk of the Bath County Court do certify that the Deed of Conveyance from William Oakley and Martha, his wife to David Cartmill was this day acknowledged before me by the said William Oakley to be his hand and seal act and deed and she the said Martha being by me examined separate and apart from her said husband-------that she freely & willingly-----and delivered the same to be her name and seal, act and deed. It being again shown and explained to her by me, again she acknowledged the said writing and said she wished not to retract it and that she did the same freely without the threats or persuasions of her husband but desired that the same mite be recorded in my office as such. Whereupon the same is recorded as the law directs. Given under my hand this 22nd day October 1834.
