The Medal Ceremonies

The medals for the winners of all the wonderful events in the Catlanta Catlympics were awarded at the impurrressive closing ceremonies. Of the two events entered by the Ballard Bunch, Smurgling medals were awarded first, and then the Synchronized Sleeping medals.

Smurgling Medals

Boris (KCOG): Now the moment we've been waiting for . . . the Smurgling medals!!! Many thanks to FredGMeyercat, Jon-Tom, Patches, Kitsen, Clarence, Chester, Shadrach, Henry, Talisker Pippin, Tabitha, Oscar and Mellon for their participation.

And the medalists are:

Taking the Trout:
KITSEN--for the innovative technique of marking the smurglee with a "K."

Taking the Toona:
TALISKERPIPPIN: the commentator sez it all: (audio replay): "Now she mooves to thuh head of thuh bed, walking from her meowmie'z feet to her tummy to her shoulders, eech foot leeving deep depresshuns in her meowmie'z body. Now she sticks her noze in her meowmie's ear, whuffles and--yes! she purrrrrz! It's those graceful little details that makes her presentation so appealing!"

And winning the Sammun:
A repeat preformance by JON-TOM. (audio replay) "And he finishes it with a perfect dismount--an endearing look up at meowmy while sinking razor sharp claws into her flesh and then a four point landing on the floor when she screeches and stands up...and he sticks that landing. Not one bobble from this cathlete! What an incredible routine! Flawlessly executed and the judges will have to give him high marks for the liquidity of his routine as well as its difficulty."

Concatulashuns to all the participants!! If the medalists will take the podium please and be available for interviews.

Sportscaster Interviewer: Here we are with Talisker Pippin, Toona Medal winner inna Smurgling event. Tell us, Mz. Pippin, how does it feel to be onna medal platform?

Tally: It's wunderful to be here and to win the Toona Medal. I've been working and training fur a long time, and it's so exciting to have reached this moment. I haf to thank my meowmie who has cooperated wif my training alla way and contributed herownself to my success. I feel as if Ihaf represented alla members of the Fluffy Cat Club and the Tabby Cat Club too, and I'm furrry furry proud to be here.

S.I.: Are you disappointed to have won thuh Toona insted of thuh Sammun?

Tally: Well, thuh most important thing was to do my furrry best, and even though I left out an element in my routine...

S.I.: Whut wuz that??

Tally: That wuz thuh cat-hoomin frensh kiss--usually I do that furrry well, but I just dropped it in thuh excitement of the competishun. Ennyway, I did the best I could do and I'm proud of the results. Jon-Tom is a great competitor, and he realy deserved the sammun. I'm furry proud to have been able to participate inna Catlympics and to get enny medal at all is so furry speshul. Besides, Ireeely reeeeeely like toona!

S.I.: We understand you have a speshul mentor who has counselled you on various aspects of your performance.

Tally: That would be Spike, V.C. (Venerable Cat), and Ihaf to say that his faith in me has helped me stick to my program so that Iwas able to compete at this level. And Ishould point out that our mentor-mentee relashunship is a wonderful example of international US-Catnadian cooperashun, which is what the Catlympics are all about.

S.I.: That's right, Talisker Pippin! Internashunal feline friendship is one of the most important aspects of these games. Fangu fur taking time at this inspiring moment to talk wif us. There she goes folks--Talisker Pippin, Toona Medal Smurgler!

(Spike, V.C., was quick to concatulate his mentee: "Sobsnifflesob, Ize just so proud Ize could just bust all my buttonz iffn Ize had any. Ize wantz ta extend my concatulations ta my mentee on her amazin purrformance that brought her the toona. Az I've alwayz sed "a fish is a fish is a fish" n the color of it iz immaterial. Ize so deeply touched by the testimonial ta me that Ize don't know what ta say, so Ize wont say nothin. (UB:Wonder iffn Ize getz a slice of the toona?) Anyone got a hanky? Sniffsniff " --Spike, M.O.T.T.M.I.S.T. (Mentor of the Toona Medalist in Smurglin, Tally!)

And of course Tally shared the toona with Spike, who among his many talents was a purrveyer of fine seafod and a great connoisseur of fishes.

Then the medals for Synchronized Sleeping were awarded.

Synchronized Sleeping Medals

Boris (KCOG): Well kitties...the results are in from the Synchronized Sleeping event. This event has been plagued by chaos. Due to the faulty transportation system many entrants were unable to turn in routines. There were so many stunning entries that the judges decided to award two medals at several levels (UB: this is gonna bankrupt the KCOG!).

For the Trout:
BOBBY and DYLAN for their skill in switching from total chaos to beautiful harmony at the drop of a pin and for maintaining synchronicity despite being in different rooms.

Taking the Toonas:
FUFF and BOOTSIE who managed to work the Parallel Rollover, the Salt Cow, the Peekaboo Maneuver and the CouchPotatoe position into their routine.

AND

SPOT and EMBER for a performance that tugged on the heartstrings as the partners maintained contact throughout.

And the Sammuns are awarded to
CEILIDHFLURRYDANCEand SKYESILVERSONG. The commentators said it all:"these more superficial points of comparison are easily set aside when you begin to observe and understand the deep emotional, some would say spiritual, synchronicity between these two cats. Some say they wouldn't even have to train for this event--they live it every day of their lives. That is so apparent in the wonderful performance we have just seen--Ceilidh and Skye are stunning represetnatives of the best kind of friendship and unity. We've been privileged to watch them demonstrate that today."

AND

CODY and CALPURRNIA. "Kitties and gentlecats, dis reportur jus' kan't believe dis! Cody an' Callipurrz liddle hartz ar eeven beetin' as WUN!!! Wut a momentuss o-kayshun!! De furst tyme in Catlympicz hisstory dat purrfekt TOTALSYNCRISITYhas been achiefed!!!"

Concatulashuns to all the participants! If the medalists will take the podium please and be available for interviews.

Ceilidh Flurrydance took the lead in the post-ceremony interviews: Mreowowow, efurrykitty. My bestest frend Skye is still a furry shy kitty, so I'll be spokescat fur our team. I want to say fangu to efurrykitty who supported us in our quest fur the sammun. We are furry honored to stand onna medal platform wif Calpurrnia de Calico and Alexander Blitzen Cody. We thot they were sure winners when they perfeckted the two-hartz-beet-az-wun skill, so we're speshully proud to win thuh sammun wif them.

I also want to thank my speshul valuntine winkwink, Rocko (who haz been mooving wif his mom and bruther Oliver to a noo house), cuz even though Skye iz my bestest frend, Rocko is the bestest winkwink and has showed me furrry speshul ways of being sincr...uh, synchro...uh...together. And that has only increased my commitment to fulfilling the goals Skye and I have set as bestest frends and teemmates. And I would also like to say speshul hello to my mentee, Rusty the Tiger, who I know will someday achieve whatever goals he sets fur himself just like Skye and Ihave acheeved this sammun medal.

Alla other synchronized sleepers were furrry good, too, and we would like to pay tribute speshully to Kitsen and the Dreem Tree-o who were prevented from competing in these Catlympics by circumstances beyond their control -- we are furry proud to be following in their pawsteps.

This has been furry exciting and wunderful Catlympics, and we've all had a gudgud time and met lotza other kittiez from all over thuh werld, and that's the best part of all. (Well, that and eatin all that gud sammun! And Tally won the Toona medal, so we don't even haf to share!) Mreowowow, from Ceilidh and Skye, Sammun Medal Synchronized Sleepers.

And that's the story of the Ballard Bunch, Ceilidh, Skye, & Talisker Pippin, at the Catlympics in Catlanta. There were lots more kitties competing and they all have their stories, too. Efurrykitty had a real good time.
