        CITADELLE

        Located atop cap Diamant, the Citadelle constitutes the eastern flank of Quebec's fortifications. Inspired by it, romantic writers have called Quebec the "Gilbraltar of America". In 1820, the construction of the Citadelle began, it lasted more than 30 years. The continued presence of the Royal 22e Regiment at the Citadelle since 1920 makes it the largest fortified group of buildings still occupied by troups in North America. The military tradition is maintained by the Beating of Retreat and the Changing of the Guard.

        CHATEAU FRONTENAC

        South of place d'Armes towers the impressive nad majestic Chateau Frontenac. This world-reknowned hotel celebrated its centennial in 1993. If was named after Count of Frontenac, the illustrious governor of New France. The stately building, inaugurated in 1893, was completed by the addition of a central tower in 1925. Two historic conferences, in 1943 and 1944, were held here and were attended by Winston Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt at the invitation of Canadian Prime Minister MacKenzie King.

        OLD-QUEBEC

        Old-Quebec is a privileged place. That historical part of the city has been, and is still today the only urban area to be registered on the prestigious UNESCO world heritage list. Perched on top of Cap Diamand, Old-Quebec overlooks the St. Lawrence River.

        QUARTIER PETIT-CHAMPLAIN

        Quartier Petit-Champlain calls to mind a quaint little riverside village. In its narrow streets, pedestrians can enjoy entertainment provided by musicians, clowns and jugglers. Liveliness and artistic creativities of the streets of this area have been acknowledged, Quartier Petit-Champlain has received the highest touristic award for excellence.

        PLACE ROYALE

        Place-Royale is today one of the oldest districts on the continent. Its narrow streets and the architecture of its houses testify to four centuries of history. In summer, Place-Royale hosts a wide array of plays and variety shows.

        RUE SAINT-PAUL AND THE OLD PORT

        Situated at the foot of Old-Quebec on its northern side, rue Saint-Paul and the Old-Port are among the more picturesque. Situated at the junction of the St-Charles River and the St-Lawrence River, the Old-Port is rich in history, portal and maritime heritage of Quebec City. Rue Saint-Paul that goes across this neighbourhood regroups many antique dealers as well as handycraft shops.

        PLAINES D'ABRAHAM

        The Plains of Abraham are renowned as being one of the largest and most prestigious parks in the world where leisure, culture and history make one. Whether it be on foot, bicycle or on cross-country skis, a visit to the park is always a great recreational outing.

        PARC DE LA CHUTE MONTMORENCY

        A few kilometres east of Quebec, in a wonderful natural setting, Parc de la Chute-Montmorency, classified as a historic site in December 1994, is a spectacular look-out point over the St.Lawrence River, Ile d'Orleans and the capital. Well known for its impressive 83 metre high waterfall, that is one and a half times that of Niagara Falls, the park features many points of interest.

        PONT DE QUEBEC

        Proclaimed an international historic monument of civil engineering. The pont(bridge)has a suspended span of 549 metres in length between the two main pillars. This is why it is considered the longest cantilever bridge in the world. During construction, its central span collapsed twice (1907 and 1916). After years of construction, the bridge was finally opened to railway traffic in 1917. It was not until 1929 that motorists began to use it.
