Gold mining and tourism dominate Lynn Lake's economy. Nickel, copper and gold deposits in the region have provided Lynn Lake residents with employment for well over forty years. Catching abundant northern pike, walleye, trout, whitefish and grayling is an easy feat in our hundreds of secluded and pristine lakes. Any fisherman can celebrate their adventure every June at the great Northern Pike Festival. Whether you want to fish from any short or travel with a guide to a hidden place, you will never be the same after your visit.
Who else can say they visited a mining town that moved. Book an actual tour of the gold mine, or visit Lynn Lake's quaint mining museum. Then go watch NASA launch huge weather balloons to explore the atmosphere. There's lots to see and do when you have 18 hours of daylight to play in during the summer months in the north.
Huge eskers of gravel and sand rise from the landscape. These are the remains of glaciers from thousands of years ago. They have become historic pathways for aboriginal tribes and migrating caribou. Go hiking and explore the "Land of the Little Sticks". You will find abundant berriers and mushrooms to pick, and you can see unique birds and other exciting wildlife.
Wilderness surrounds Lynn Lake, and several of the guiding and lodge outfitters can lead you to some majestic big game hunting for moose, black bear or caribou. Its a thrill you will long remember. But you have to book early as big game licenses are limited.
The Pike Festival in June attracts many keen fishermen who are chasing prizes for catching the largest fish or a tagged fish. It's a weekend for a great escape! The Winter Carnival is held in February with many unique and fun events including dog sled racing. Other events are bonspiels, hockey and skating tournaments.
Northern Manitoba has been home to aboriginal peoples for thousands of years. Visit a native trapline for a unique educational experience. Canoe routes can lead you to isolated native communities where you can buy beautiful pieces of native art or crafts directly from the source. Soak in the spirit of native culture at the Annual Pow-wow in November.
After your adventure into the wilderness for fishing or hunting, watching as NASA launches a number of balloons for scientific exploration or just trekking you can enjoy the many unique amenities that this small town has to offer. This is not Toronto or Chicago, just friendly Northerners!!..In town you can find kid's parks, a swimming area, baseball diamond, regular dances and bingo's for anyone.
